The Research Center
Created in 1998, this Unit aims at developing research on key problems concerning plant biodiversity and ecological adaptations, with particular emphasis on Mediterranean ecosystem function and on the way biodiversity responds to global changes. With a multidisciplinary approach, the Unit studies the ecology of Mediterranean and Atlantic woods and shrublands of Portugal, considering the trade-offs between conservation and exploitation, within a sustainability framework. CEBV integrates traditional scientific areas, bringing together researchers specialised in taxonomy, ecology, ecophysiology and microbiology. The Center functions at Departamento de Biologia Vegetal of Faculdade de Ciências (DBV/FCUL) and at Jardim Botânico e Museu Nacional de História Natural (JB_MNHN).
